Duties

Welds and does metal work. Fabricates security grills. Fabricates security grills, doors, windows and air conditioner grills. Repairs and maintains metal doors, installs security locks and bolts on metal doors. Constructs water tanks, provides general repairs on official cars. Constructs special save havens, fabricates antennas, exhaust pipes on generators and constructs security perimeter fences with wire mish and razor wire. Repairs and welds water storage tank, etc.

Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler. Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment Cuts workpiece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife. 95%

Incumbent will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties requested by his or her agency. 5%

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Two years of journeyman welder experience in a diplomatic mission, an international organization, or large local institution is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Incumbent must have basic knowledge of welding. Must have full journeyman mechanic knowledge of established practices and procedures in welding.Education Requirements:

Completion of Elementary school is required. Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level 1 (Rudimentary) speaking/reading/writing English is required. This will be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Incumbent must know how to do welding and construction of metal grills, doors, and windows. Must be able to use all tools of the trade. This will be tested.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Yaounde, Cameroon may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

HIRING PREFERENCE SELECTION PROCESS:  Applicants in the following hiring preference categories are extended a hiring preference in the order listed below.  Therefore, it is essential that these applicants accurately describe their status on the application. * IMPORTANT:  Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification.  A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given. 

** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
